We are working in solidarity to create a National Student Bill of Rights for All Youth (NSBR) that will become a unifying document for youth nation-wide and a driving force for youth and education justice movement building!
Current cities include Baltimore, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Oakland, Chicago, New Orleans, Providence and New York, and we invite youth and adult allies from all cities to join the network.
Our goals for gathering in Detroit: 1. Have all current cities share what campaigns they have done so far. 2. Connect with each other. 3. Network with other students from around the country who want to start Student Bill of Rights campaigns in their cities. 4. Plan for how we are going to develop and make the National Student Bill of Rights law.
We’ll have a tent set-up outside throughout the USSF so that our organizing can continue beyond this session. This is a youth-led movement and adult allies are welcome to support.
This campaign was launched at the Free Minds Free People (FMFP) 2009 Conference in Houston by a room full of students from around the country. We’ll connect other cities at the USSF, and then meet up in 2011 at the next FMFP in Providence to finalize the National Student Bill of Rights.
