Sex work/sex trade rights organizations and individuals from across the US collaborated to produce a report on violations of human rights of sex workers and people profiled as sex workers that will be submitted before the UN Human Rights Council when the US goes up this year for the Universal Periodic Review process. The report covers police violence and profiling of people engaged in sex work/sex trades, the repercussions of the prison system on people’s lives, and other forms of institutional discrimination sex workers face. People organizing on the ground in and as part of communities engaged in sex work/sex trades will talk about their efforts to expose and address these human rights violations and the role that the UN Periodic Review Process may play in holding the US accountable for its human rights track record. Learn about the ways in which local and national policies and approaches to sex work lead to gross human rights violations. Anticipated speakers include Kelli Dorsey of Different Avenues in Washington, DC; Shira Hassan of Young Women's Empowerment Project, Deon Haywood of Women With a Vision in New Orleans, Andrea Ritchie, Human Rights Activist, and Lisa Davis of MADRE.
