In the founding of Israel, the Zionist movement historically and currently translated into the colonization and ethnic cleansing of Palestine. As Jews and white anti-racists committed to liberation and justice, confronting Zionism is central to our commitment to challenging racism and US imperialism. This workshop will explore the relationship between confronting Zionism and dismantling other intersecting forms of oppression as well as the meaning and practice of solidarity and joint struggle. Everyone is welcome to participate in the workshop and the discussion and exercises are intended to support Jewish anti-Zionist and White anti-racist activists in clarifying our role and work as part of Palestine solidarity and liberation and anti-war movements and implications for anti-racist and anti-imperialist organizing. Specifically, for Jewish activists committed to anti-racist organizing, when we are unable to explicitly challenge Zionism, our social justice work is compromised. We will explore how to collective reject the privilege that is gained through the political collaboration between the US and Israel, class mobility, and the “whitening” of Jewish identity in the USA. The session will offer exercises, discussions and multi-media tools towards confronting our own struggles around our Jewish identity, family and community relationships and Zionism.
