The military is fundamental to maintaining and advancing empire, and U.S. military bases connect thousands of affected communities in diverse locations worldwide. In response, women of color-led efforts are challenging empire and its most powerful tool, the military. This panel highlights three communities currently on the front lines of resisting U.S. military expansion: the proposed military build-up on Guahan (Guam), the new U.S. base and ongoing military aid to Colombia, and the militarization of the U.S.-Mexico border and immigration policy. Speakers include LisaLinda Natividad (Guahan Coalition for Peace and Justice), Deborah Lee and Gwyn Kirk (Bay Area-based Women for Genuine Security), a representative from the World March of Women in Colombia, and members of Esperanza Peace and Justice Center in San Antonio, Texas. They will discuss how they are using feminist politics to work across borders to resist the militarization and cultural genocide of their own communities, as well as working in solidarity with other communities.
