Full Description:

Description: The history between feminist and transgender communities is tragically fraught with tension, misunderstanding and acts of exclusion. We will offer and develop working definitions to allow participants to form a common language in order to look at our histories, our present, and our visions for moving forward. Together, we will explore gender theory, including submissive and dominant gender roles; examine who is historically left out of mainstream organizing efforts in the name of feminism and in the name of transgender rights; identify common obstacles for full inclusion – racism, classism, criminalization, ableism, anti-immigrant sentiment, etc.; and brainstorm strategies and tactics for creating gender justice between and within our communities.
