Full Description:

Overall message: The worldwide economic crisis has created in the U.S. a climate ripe for right-wing mobilization which bears striking similarities to the rise of fascism during the Great Depression. A panel of bloggers, community organizers and academics tackles the rise of the populist Right and analyzes some of the most prominent organizations promoting the new fascism, including the Tea Party movement, the racist Minutemen, the military/paramilitary Oath Keepers. Specific topics to be discussed: Similarities and differences between mass-party fascism and neoliberal terror. Fascist policy toward communities most at risk, especially immigrant communities. Relationships between fascist movements, the U.S. military, small business, the big bourgeoisie and the State. What history teaches us about fascist movements. What to expect from the new fascism. How to fight it.

Panelists will include Frances Fox Piven, others TBA.
