Strategic Framing and Messaging

Workshop Information
Event Date:
Wed, 06/23/2010 - 10:00am - 12:00pm
Event Location:
Cobo Hall: W1-53
Full Description:

G.A.P. recognizes the powerful and more often than not, damaging role media plays in misrepresenting our communities and our stories. We believe it is essential for our communities to reframe issues based on our perspectives, analysis and lived experiences. In order to do that, it is important to build tools for us to understand how and why the dominant media frames our communities in that light, and then build our own strategies to create media that reflects our values and reframes our experience on our own terms.
This workshop is very interactive, and combines small group work with larger group discussions and story-telling. We want participants to build and learn from each other's experiences, gain media literacy skills, gain knowledge of basic media production and develop a visual strategy tool they can use to talk about a campaign you are currently working on.
