Military recruiters routinely use devious methods to convince hundreds of thousands of young people to join the military every year. Peace and justice groups across the country are challenging the militarization of, and promoting nonviolent opportunities for, youth.
In this participatory workshop, we will discuss how to begin countering military recruitment and share ideas for making existing projects even more effective.
Topics may include: strategic planning, utilizing research on military recruitment, reaching diverse audiences, how to gain access to schools equal to that of military recruiters, researching and promoting nonviolent alternatives, and countering various forms of recruitment. The presenters are some of the national leaders in the movement, and include high school students and parents from both urban and rural areas.
