Event Location:

Full Description:

Unitarian Universalism is a religious tradition that draws from many places to find truth and inspiration- and social justice work is our primary way of expressing our values. With our values as our guide, Unitarian Universalists have been at the forefront of American social change movements for over 2 centuries. UU congregations have been leaders in the movements for religious freedom, abolition, desegregation, anti-war efforts, women’s rights, LGBT rights, immigration rights, and environmental justice. Locally, here in Detroit, 1st Unitarian Universalist Church has a long history of working for justice, particularly in regards to race, poverty, women’s rights, and the environment. Currently, we are working on campaigns around mass transportation, pollution, immigration reform, and LGBT marriage equality. Our workshop will cover, through presentation and discussion, both our history of social justice efforts through our liberal religious lens, as well as the local and national social justice campaigns on which we are currently working. We are Standing on the Side of Love and invite you to network with us!
