The Road of Recovery: A Discussion on the Innovative Transition of Indigenous Communities Away from Fossil Fuel Based Economies

Workshop Information
Event Date:
Fri, 06/25/2010 - 1:00pm - 5:30pm
Event Location:
Cobo Hall: M2-29
Full Description:

Indigenous communities, who have relied on fossil fuel extraction as our sole form of economic development, have consequently borne the brunt of environmental, social, and economic injustice for decades. However, the emerging green economy has created an opportunity for Indigenous communities to transition away from this deadlock. Panelists will share their thoughts on how to transition our current fossil fuel based economies to more sustainable communities, what immediate and long term steps need to be taken, and how this transition relates to the green economy in the U.S. at large.
