Through presentation, discussion, and group work, we will explore tools, strengths, and creative tactics used in the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
In 2005, Palestinian civil society, rooted in the legacy of Palestinian resistance to colonialism and inspired by the South African anti-apartheid movement, called on the int'l grassroots community to support Palestinian efforts to transform their conditions and attain self-determination by implementing BDS.
Organizations and individuals around the world have joined the BDS movement to hold Israel accountable for violations of international law and Palestinian human rights. Through street and store actions, videos, dance, music, and new media, the growing BDS movement has achieved many successes. Join us as we highlight two US-based BDS campaigns: Adalah-NY's campaign against Lev Leviev, the Israeli diamond magnate and settlement builder; and CODEPINK's campaign against Ahava, the Israeli cosmetics company that appropriates Palestinian resources.
While this workshop is geared towards Palestine solidarity activists involved in or thinking about BDS campaigns, other activists with limited resources may find the tactics useful in their own work.
