Event Date:

Event Location:
WSU Old Main: 1134
Full Description:

Enemy Images: What do these images conjure in our minds and what are our intellectual and emotional reactions? By identifying those aspects of images and their effect on us, we are able to talk about them and overcome them, if they represent a barrier to understanding, which, in this case, they do. People should leave this workshop better equipped to filter MSM and understand spin on the issue of the middle east conflict. The alternatives to be proposed are internal and external: to examine the humanitarian spin on this issue and also to contemplate overt confrontation of the image, by owning it and
empowering the media-given images themselves. Strategies would involve deconstruction of every day media and already implanted projections of current global situations, specifically regarding Palestine and Israel. Further, by empowering the group, the radical message of owning the image and breaking it down can be rendered effective in certain situations, to be dialogued about in the workshop itself. The humanitarian aspect will also be examined in some depth in the workshop and will be recognized as
effective in certain situations, again, to be realized through
discussion within the group.
