Full Description: 

The workshop will explore the similarities and differences between migration patterns to the U.S. and Europe and the border militarization policies of the United States and the European Union. The focus for the U.S. will be border policies with respect to Haiti and Mexico. The main emphasis for Europe will be France and Italy. The workshop will also focus on the impact of border policies on migrants, their families and communities in both their home countries and host countries. Finally, panelist and participants will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the resistance to border militarization and the outlook for the future.
