We will describe the history of the creation of Nuclear Free Zones in the world, and mechanisms of collective and mutual security.

We will first teach on the history of the Middle East in relation to the development of nuclear weapons.
We will describe the status of each country in relation to nuclear weapons.
What is pushing this development and what could alter it?
We will give reports on what has happened at the May Nuclear Proliferation treaty meetings in New York at the UN and the priorities of the nuclear weapons and disarmament movements specifically on this issue.

Why did Israel develop nuclear weapons, what is it's policy?
What is the position of each surrounding country on this topic?
We will describe the passing of the United Nations Nuclear Free Zone Resolution 45/52 (December 4,1990) followed by the establishment in 1991 at the Madrid conference of a multinational mechanism to work on making the Middle East: A Nuclear Weapons Fee Zone.

Why is this process stalled and where we are now?

We will look at US Policy in relation to the Middle East and also at the European Council policies.

We will describe the global context that brings a sense of urgency to this topic.
We will work to inform activists and put it on the agenda of the anti war movements.

The establishment of a Nuclear Weapons Free Zone in the region of the Middle East would greatly enhance international Peace and Security.
