Full Description:

People have the power to reclaim their economies and build new ones based on progressive values. Solidarity Economy is an alternative development framework that is grounded in practice and the principles of: solidarity, mutualism, and cooperation; equity in all dimensions; social well-being over profit and the unfettered rule of the market; sustainability; social and economic democracy; and pluralism, allowing for different forms in different contexts, and driven from the bottom-up.
We are activists, organizers and academics from Boston, NJ, NYC, NC, Philadelphia and San Francisco. We are identifying forms of SE in our communities and using this information to create alternatives to capitalism. The presentation will be followed by an exchange of ideas and tactics amongst the participants and the audience.
Panelist will offer an overview of their work. Our work is at many different stages of development: from well developed umbrella organizations like JASecon in San Francisco to the JSNCooperative which has just embarked on a community dialogue and participatory research. The mapping is being conducted in vibrantly different shades and each offers valuable insight to how our alternative economies will be created and maintained.
