This workshop will provide participants with key tools & strategies for winning Community Benefits Policies & Agreements through community organizing & participatory research. The key alternatives the workshop will focus on are campaign planning & strategic community organizing of residents of redeveloping areas to identify leverage in the Land Use & Zoning process as well as in a redevelopment processes to minimize displacement & gain victories such as: local hiring, job training, living wages, affordable housing, sustainable food production & access, etc. Participants will engage through a series of interactive exercises to develop skills needed to engage in a community benefits campaign in their own region. A model campaign will be used to illustrate the key components of the workshop.
Model Campaign: The Fort McPherson Community Benefits campaign is focused on the redevelopment of a 486 acre Army Base in Southwest Atlanta.
