Full Description:

Hip Hop Congress is an international, grassroots organization composed of independent artists, local chapters, and an extensive network of people involved in all aspects of Hip Hop. Its mission is to provide the Hip Hop Generation and its children with the tools, resources, and opportunities to make social, economic and political change on a local, regional and national level. Hip Hop Congress is the product of a merger of artists and students, music and community. Hip Hop is often a voice for the voiceless with disenfranchised people grabbing onto the culture as a forum to express their experiences and frustration with circumstances in their respective contexts. This workshop will show why Hip Hop is an effective catalyst for social justice and change, using Hip Hop Congress as a model. It will go into detail about the structure and programs of HHC with facilitators representing each level and program of the organization. Participants will learn how Hip Hop and HHC create and implement viable solutions for many of the struggles that peoples’ movements face. Artistic pieces will be integrated into the workshop, grounding the organization’s foundation in Hip Hop.
