How can activists -- working in solidarity with Palestinians or on other social justice issues -- use different types of news media to build a campaign? What are the possibilities and limitations of electronic media to get a message across and inspire others to take action?
This workshop will draw from case studies of recent articles published by The Electronic Intifada that helped readers to mobilize -- from catching Israel "with its pants down" (as one Israeli commentator put it) by secretly filming a disruption of Israeli war criminal Ehud Olmert's speech at a US university, to exposing corporate involvement in the occupation that has fueled divestment activism in the European Union.
This workshop will be led by The Electronic Intifada's managing editor Maureen Clare Murphy and The Electronic Intifada contributor and investigative journalist Nora Barrows-Friedman and will allow for discussion and exchange between activists to help identify media and mobilization priorities and strategies.
