Full Description:

The presence of Hip Hop culture within Arabic speaking countries has been rapidly and consistently growing among youth, as a medium of expression for many who regularly face political, religious, and other forms of persecution. The parallels between the revolutionary roots of hip hop culture within the United States and those roots being forged now in the Arab world show a dynamic methodology towards fighting oppression and combating stereotypes. In the midst of violent conflicts, Arabic Hip Hop has started to give a voice to the younger generation. For artists such as Arabian Knightz, Shadia Mansour, DAM, Eslam Jawaad, and the Narcycist, they enjoy a larger and more loyal following then ever before, giving them a platform to speak out on the plights of their people. Karim "Rush" Adel, Hesham "Sphinx" Abed, and Eva "Egypt" El Fayed of the Egyptian group Arabian Knightz speak on Arabic Hip Hop as a social movement. They will examine it's history and how it has become a platform in combating injustice and political oppression. American Journalist Steve Furay will discuss his involvement and how the themes of the movement can achieve a larger presence within the global media.
