Workshop Information
Event Date:
Wed, 06/23/2010 - 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Full Description:

This workshop looks at the grassroots economic institutions that people are cultivating to advance social justice in working-class communities and communities of color. We will hear from folks building institutions like worker collectives and land trusts in a way that is directly supporting the work of organizing for racial, economic, and environmental justice.
How can we create transformative income-generating organizations that also serve and advance positive social or systemic change through organized resistance? At the end of the panel presentation, participants will gather in small groups to discuss the applications for their work.
Facilitated by Le Tim Ly (Liberation Ink), and Marc Mascarenhas-Swan (JASEcon). Panelists to include: Fekkak Mamdouh (Restaurant Opportunities Center - ROC-United) ; Nadia Khastigar (Design Action Collective, Oakland, CA); Sam Wilson, Milk Not Jails, Syracuse, NY; Yilda Campos (Rainbow Grocery Collective, San Francisco, CA).
