Divestment from Israel Bonds: Strategies for State-Level Campaigns

Participants in this workshop will discuss strategies for organizing and implementing multiple state-level campaigns that struggle for divestment from Israel Bonds in solidarity with the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions of Israel issued in 2005. Israel Bonds are crucial in upholding the structural oppression of Palestinians. Since 2007 the Minnesota Break the Bonds Campaign (MNBBC) has organized a diverse and expanding state-level movement in Minnesota aimed at getting the state to divest from Israel Bonds, and would like to share it as a model for nation-wide replication. MNBBC is a part of the larger, global BDS movement and we hope that this workshop will result in concrete strategies for similar campaigns that can be taken back to other states and implemented. In the long term, it is hoped that eventually a national coalition of Israel Bonds Divestment campaigns can be created to share resources, tactics, and organizing support.
