Event Date:
Fri, 06/25/2010 - 10:00am - 12:00pm
Event Location:
Cobo Hall: DO-6B
Full Description:

Everyone is a storyteller, and with the growth of the internet and affordable cameras, phones and other devices, the plane of social media and community reporting is rapidly changing to become more accessible. In this interactive workshop, we will encourage participants to incorporate technology into their storytelling. We will share a variety of ways to use film, photography, and the internet to document and disseminate injustices, cultural history, and other important issues.

This will be a hands-on learning process, in which new and experienced storytellers alike will be able to try out different mediums. The design of the workshop creates a space for participants to exchange ideas and experiences. This space for dialogue is especially important, as digital storytelling can be a powerful tool for coalition building and communication across and among communities, movements, and organizations.

Both collaborating organizations-- Adapting to Scarcity and Get on the Bus Productions-- have used documentary media in their work around water and environmental justice. We believe in: digital media as a vehicle for social change and education, and the power of information once it is made available.
