The Cairo Declaration and Renewed Strength in Anti-Israeli Apartheid Movement Description: Nearly 1400 international activists gathered in Cairo, Egypt in late December 2009 to mark the anniversary of the massive Israeli military offensive on Gaza that left thousands dead and tens of thousands homeless and displaced. The Egyptian government made every effort possible to thwart the international action. The Cairo Declaration was the response. The intent was a collective global declaration against the Israeli occupation of Palestine with the clear understanding that the state of Israel has racism and colonialism at its deepest foundations. The significance of the Declaration is that it denounces the violence and provides a platform for resistance and steps towards a resolution.
