Pride at Work organizes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender labor and our allies in support of social and economic justice for all workers. We organize in the spirit of the historic motto of the labor movement, "An Injury to One is an Injury to All." We educate and organize mutual support between the LGBTQ community, the labor movement and allies of both communities.
Workshop participants will discuss organizing campaigns and strategies to build greater solidarity at the intersections of our communities:
* What unique issues do LGBT workers face? * How do unions make a difference in challenging wage and benefit disparities and fighting poverty * Differentiating marketing from reality: companies can't call themselves "pro-LGBT" if they are anti-union * How can we be more effective allies for each other? - Action steps union leaders can take to support LGBT workers; - Action steps LGBT activists can take to support workers' rights
Participants will also discuss current local organizing efforts amongst LGBTQ and labor communities, and identify on-the-ground action plans to continue building solidarity at home.
