Workshop Information
Event Date:
Wed, 06/23/2010 - 3:30pm - 5:30pm
Event Location:
Woodward Academy: Gym
Full Description:

Using various ethnic communities including new immigrant communities in Detroit as an example for other cities, this workshop provides a model for implementing cultural arts programming for underserved youth through a PowerPoint presentation and discussion. Using the Arab American National Museum’s photography program, SURA Arts Academy as a model, presenters will provide alternatives to school districts losing funding for arts education in underserved communities. We will also present alternatives to a homogenous ethnocentric curriculum by implementing diversity learning initiatives. The presentation will serve as a toolbox and cover the goals and operation of the program to foster inspiration for similar programming for grassroots organizations.
