This session is for institutions, organizations & school programs looking to develop youth leadership programs that support community engagement efforts. Based on a developed training curriculum and “how to” manual & workbook from the California State University, Center for Community Engagement, participants will explore how university-level student leadership programs can be replicated to engage youth voice and leadership in creating social change. Participants will develop an appreciation for the power & potential of all young people to develop groundbreaking, sustainable programs & the vital role they play in shaping their development from the ground up. College student presenters will not only share their own experiences as leaders, they will also challenge participants to look at their own organizations & the role young people can play in creating community change. In addition to “how-to” information on critical components to every program, participants will engage in hands-on activities to plan their own programs and network with others in the field. We will use a variety of approaches to meet all learning styles and organization types, including didactic presentation, small group discussion and individual planning time.
