The Constitution says that everyone has the right to effective representation when accused of a crime, rich or poor. But Michigan's public defense representation system is failing our children and adults, and the impact is most dramatically and disproportionately on communities of color. The Campaign for Justice is working with communities across Michigan to build toward legislative reform so that we have a justice system that works for all. Participants will share stories and perspectives about how a failing public defense representation system affects families and communities. The group will learn together through discussion and interactive activities about what's wrong in the current system as well as strategies and alternatives for a system that includes community-based and holistic defense representation.
