US Climate Justice and Migration Working Group

This workshop will explore the intersection of climate justice and international migration. It will delve into the impacts of climate change on regions and communities in the Global South including: population displacement, the criminalization of international border-crossers, and the eventual tracking of migrant communities into environmental wastelands in the Global North and other regions. The workshop will incorporate a mix of short plenaries, (consisting of organizers from local U.S. immigrant communities and advocacy organizations, as well as activists from outside the U.S.), discussion groups, and popular education exercises. The intended outcome of the workshop is a work-plan aimed towards heightening the attention on climate change's impact on migration, organizing solidarity with immigrant communities within the U.S. and affected populations abroad, and advocacy for policies to redress affected communities.
