The market economy is based on commodification. It has created imbalances that upset the networks of nurturing human relationships. The gift economy is a way to help rebalance the social system, build trust and compassion in a community. In addition it can help resources can flow more efficiently.
How do you grow a gift economy? This workshop provides techniques
and tools for you to grow a gift economy in your local area. It also
gives you system thinking tools and new economic analysis
tools to understand the gift economy.
A gift economy can begin in the form of a network of self-organizing gift
circles. In a gift circle people share their needs and help each other. The gift circles build community and a sense of tribe. The gift circle brings to light what the needs are in a community and helps direct the flow of resources there. The workshop leaders will describe their rich personal experiences of circles run in their communities.
In this workshop you will learn how to start a circle, how to facilitate these gift circles, how to deal with problems that arise in the circle, and how to grow the gift circle.
