Another Kind of Media for Another World We see a wonderful explosion of grass roots media, yet these alternative media too often mimic corporate media in terms of style and content. There is a focus on celebrity, or on exceptional individuals, or sensationalism. Sometimes we try to persuade the audience with our own propaganda to counter the propaganda put out by the dominant media. Mark Dworkin and Melissa Young are award-winning documentary producers with several PBS broadcasts and over 20 years producing films that encourage social and environmental justice. This workshop is for activists and media makers to discuss how we can create better media that encourages people to question and think for themselves, that focuses on issues in their complexity and communities in their diversity, and expresses the more just and equal world we want to build in terms of its format, how it is produced, and its ultimate use.
