Mobilizing Across the Diaspora for Change: Prospects for Latin America and the Caribbean Panel 1-Afro-Descendants and the Struggle for Racial Justice and Economic Equality. The struggle for racial justice and economic equality remain primary for Afro-descendant groups throughout the Diaspora. Panelists will frame small group discussions about solidarity work with orgs. and communities in the Diaspora and concrete ways to increase communication, dialogue and travel between and throughout the Diaspora.
Panel 2-The Battle for Haiti: Reconstruction or Re-Colonization?
The sustainable rebuilding of Haiti is a key benchmark in our collective effort to realize the slogan: Another World is Possible! Will the reconstruction reflect the priorities of Haitians? How and what does this solidarity and support look like? As people attempt to regain some semblance of normalcy through highly abnormal conditions, we must make sure our support is based upon respect for human rights, respect for international standards of humanitarian relief and the treatment of IDPs, and respect for economic and labor rights.
