Youth and Students to Free Mumia Abu-JamalIn 1982, Mumia Abu-Jamal was convicted on framed-up charges for the killing of a Philadelphia police officer. Mumia, a former Black Panther Party member as well as activist, journalist, radio personality, news commentator and broadcaster, was convicted in a trial fraught with racism, suspicious evidence and witnesses that later recanted their testimonies.
Twenty-eight years later, Mumia is the most well-known political prisoner in the U.S. He has garnered international support. A columnist and the author of several books, Mumia continues the fight against injustice and U.S. imperialism from behind prison bars. Meanwhile, racist police and government officials have enacted roadblock after roadblock to prevent Mumia's freedom.
Learn Mumia's story and get an update on his legal case, as well as an analysis of the prison-industrial complex. Help us form strategies to build the youth and student struggle for Mumia.
Capitalism is killing us. Fight for SOCIALISM! A collaborative conversation in 2 partsPt. 1 - Recovery for bosses; Depression for workers; Strategies for Fighting the Capitalist Economic Crisis; Reform, Revolution and Socialism in the Era of Low-Wage Capitalism (including Abayomi Azikiwe, editor Pan-African Newswire, Moratorium NOW! Coalition; Berta Joubert, Women's Fightback Network/Women's International Democratic Federation; Fred Goldstein, author Low-Wage Capitalism, Workers World newspaper; militant youth representatives of FIST - Fight Imperialism, Stand Together)
Pt 2 - Discuss working together to revive the socialist movement right here in the U.S. Today the structural crisis of capitalism leads to permanent high unemployment, hunger, homelessness, environmental disaster, and healthcare for profit; racism, anti-immigrant terror and gender discrimination. An anti-capitalist perspective to challenge the system is critical to even win basic reforms. The working class struggle is held back because the traditional union and civil rights' leaderships are tied to the system and the Democratic Party while the socialist and communist movement is divided and numerically small. Let's discuss how we can put our differences aside and unite to rebuild the fight for socialism in the belly of the beast.
