Excluded from most labor laws, and rising up out of the shadows of slavery, domestic workers launched the Domestic Worker Bill of Rights Campaign in New York. The campaign provides an important model for building a grassroots-led legislative campaign and assembling a multi-sector progressive front. It has made history time and time again, setting new precedents in labor law and building power and visibility for domestic workers not only in the halls of government, but also within the women's movement, the labor movement, and the immigrant rights and racial justice movement.
