Re-defining Feminism and Choice: Criminalization and Survival in the Sex Trade This roundtable will stage a conversation between activists who are trying to complicate the framework of choice and the assumptions of "sex-positive" discourse in majority white sex worker activist movements. The organizations featured pursue program development in ways that center instead race, class, and age and membership-based leadership and research programs, and also re-theorize the relationship between the sex trade and a wide variety of criminalized activities in the informal economy. Particular attention will be paid to the place of “street economies” within sex worker advocacy movements.
Participants would include Kelli Dorsey from Different Avenues in Washington DC, Andrea Ritchie of Streetwise & Safe in New York,Deon Haywood of Women With a Vision in New Orleans and others with Christina Hanhardt is moderator.
