Another Education is HappeningEducation Peoples Movement Assembly
In 2010 Another Education is Happening: join us in building a national dialogue and movement that breaks down the walls between schools and community
Proposed for Wednesday June 23rd – 9 am – Cobo Hall
The Boggs Educational Center, The Boggs Center, Teachers for Social Justice, Eastern Michigan Environmental Action Council, ARC 109 and more!!
As Detroiters resist the forces of local “policy reform,” we realize our struggle is not unique. From Philadelphia to New Orleans to Los Angeles communities are resisting national and local assaults on education. In Detroit, and across the country, we are beginning to move from resistance to realizing a transformative education. This PMA calls for students, parents, communities, educators, activists, and organizers from across the country to share their stories, learn from each other’s struggles, and envision a new education. We come together for an education that is place and community based, and that deepens humanity.
Detroit Highlighted: The Boggs CenterJoin us as we discuss our work: Our aim is to help grassroots activists develop themselves into visionary leaders and critical thinkers who can devise pro-active strategies for rebuilding and respiriting our cities and rural communities from the ground up, demonstrate the power of ideas in changing ourselves, our reality, and demystify leadership. The Beloved Communities Network, Detroit Summer, and the Detroit City of Hope are just a few of the initiatives that have emerged from the work of the Boggs Center.
Detroit Highlighted: The Boggs Educational CenterWe are parents, educators, community members, and residents of Detroit who are dedicated to creating transformative educational experiences in Detroit's eastside.
