Venezuela 101 – 21st Century Socialism Charles Hardy is a U.S. citizen who has lived in Venezuela for most of the past 25 years and has witnessed the political and social changes at close hand. Eight of those years were spent living in a cardboard and tin shack in a barrio on the periphery of Caracas. Author of Cowboy in Caracas, A North American’s Memoir of Venezuela’s Democratic Revolution, (Curbstone Press), Hardy will attempt to give listeners an introduction to new thoughts emerging from the Southern hemisphere based on his contact with the grassroots citizens of Venezuela. He will be joined by Chuck Kaufman of the Alliance for Global Justice who will discuss US “democracy promotion” programs aimed at subverting democracy in Venezuela and other countries.
Building a Movement to Combat Increased US Militarism The greatest threat to world peace in the 21st century is US militarism. Wars of aggression in Iraq and Afghanistan/Pakistan. Threats of war from Asia, Africa to Latin America. Increased military build-up in Latin America with 7 new bases in Colombia and the recommisioned Fourth Fleet patrolling the Caribbean and South America. Training foreign soldiers in schools such as the School of the Americas. The Pentagon consumes half of the US discretionary budget and equals the military spending of the rest of the world combined. The Pentagon is now one of the top polluters in the world.
Discuss building an unstoppable US movement against militarism and militarization at home and interference abroad. Bring your strategy and campaign ideas to this open discussion about how to build a permanent anti-militarism movement that transcends "specific war" anti-war movements. Discuss the military, political, and cultural changes that need to take place to end the dominance of the military-industrial complex in the United States.

Our Vision
We envision societies which explore and implement alternatives to the unjust domination of governments, global financial institutions and multinational corporations which denigrate the world’s peoples and devastate ecosystems. We envision the development of a unified domestic and international movement of transformational grassroots organizations that promote a socially, ecologically and economically just world.
Our Mission
It is the mission of the Alliance for Global Justice to achieve social change and economic justice by helping to build a stronger more unified grassroots movement. We recognize that the concentration of wealth and power is the root cause of oppression requiring us to work together across ideologies, issues and communities. The Alliance nurtures organizations seeking fundamental change in international and national conditions that disempower people, create disparities in access to wealth and power, poison the earth, and plunder its resources.
We support locally-based grassroots organizing by sharing political analysis, mobilizing for direct action, monitoring the centers of corporate and government power, expanding channels of communication, and sharing skills and infrastructure. Our commitment to solidarity and to non-hierarchical democratic process enables us to respectfully listen and respond to each other within the movement.
