Full Description:

U.S. Foreign Policy in Latin America: The Bolivarian Alternative vs. Neoliberal Free Trade; A Case Study

The Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Nuestra America (ALBA)- a cooperative trade agreement among nine Latin American and Caribbean nations- formed as an alternative to the Free Trade Agreements to provide an anti-capitalists future that emphasizes, economic, social, political, and cultural development in the interest of the working poor. We will present the defeat of the neo-liberal economic model, responsible for mass migration of Latin-American workers to the United Sates, and offer an alternative vision based on human needs, not corporate greed. Come and discuss how the member countries of ALBA are responding in collective solidarity to the urgent problems of health, energy and food crises, education, communication, sports, and the necessities of life for those marginalized by colonialism and imperialist globalization. Special emphasis will include the migrant rights movement and the struggle for full rights in the U.S.

Representatives from: Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Colombia and organizers of the 2010 May Day activities.
