This panel will look at militarism through a gendered lens & discuss ways in which U.S. militarism is specifically harmful to women.Topics will include sexual assault in the ranks, problems faced by women vets, sex trafficking near bases & the impact on civilian women in conflict areas, specifically Iraq & Afghanistan. We will examine how the chronic shortage of funding for social services impacts & endangers women in the U.S. while at the same time there is always enough money for the military. Panelists will also share thoughts on specific ways to change this paradigm.Panelists include Ret. Col. Ann Wright, of Veterans for Peace, Lucinda Marshall, Director of the Feminist Peace Network, Khallilah Collins of Women in Transition (KY) & Olivia Quinto, National Education Director for AF3IRM/GABNet.

While it is important to name the problem, it is also crucial to name what we wish for & need. The second half will be a facilitated discussion of how we envision a peace that respects the human rights of women &strategies for creating a women-inclusive peace.
