Echo Justice Project – Issues of race & poverty are often used to wedge democratic social justice movements & advance an agenda that deepens structural racism & economic inequity, while transformative voices & visions of disenfranchised communities are perpetually pushed to the margins. Yet, rather than being a position of weakness, these transformative stories are a powerful position from which to shape both narratives & media policy to confront & transcend wedge issues. The USSF presents a unique opportunity to build the justice communications field & integrate collaborative, creative & strategic storytelling as a core movement building strategy for political, social & cultural change. It also represents a key convergence of the right players to define a media justice policy framework as a core strategy for social change. Often we only ask ourselves: What is possible to win given the current political & cultural terrain? This collaborative project seeks to build a collective strategy to also ask the question: How can we transform the current political & cultural terrain through popular storytelling & framing & build the conditions for media system & narrative change to increase racial & economic justice, and human rights.
