Dismantling the School-to-Prison Pipeline
This workshop is intended to assist participants in addressing the school-to-prison pipeline in their respective community. First, there will be an overview of the issue, its causes, and its impact. Then, we will examine several case studies of resistance, involving an interactive discussion around actual examples of local and state organizing campaigns, and the lessons learned from them.
The facilitators will provide an overview of opportunities to address the school-to-prison pipeline at the local, state, and federal levels, and will highlight tools and resources available to support participants’ organizing efforts. In small groups, participants will develop policy agendas and strategies for addressing the issue in their communities. There will then be a discussion period, with the goal being that participants leave the session with concrete, realistic action plans for dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline.
