What happens in Detroit after the US Social Forum? This workshop will launch a project to develop a free health care center in the city that will go beyond simply providing care to facilitating organizing for political and social change. Workshop participants will help create a model that can be replicated in other medically under-served communities. This model will not rely on financial support from foundations that make meaningful political organizing impossible. Under the current capitalist system in which health care is commodified, it cannot rely on government funding. Rather, we will devise strategies for acquiring necessary resources that would be applicable to other projects as well as to this. Activists who share this vision will bring their experiences together to realize the mantra, “Another Detroit is Happening” as we seek to create another US.
