Creativity Lab

The Creativity Lab at Cobo Hall is a creative, media space where everybody is invited to experiment with different art forms as a way to express what is being discussed at the Social Forum. This is also a space to exchange tools, approaches and ideas with other artists and organizers through creative projects in the spirit of the forum. It offers an opportunity to work across mediums and art forms, share practices, and open up to new ways of engaging culture in organizing and direct action at the forum and beyond.

Are you feeling inspired? Are you in need of an open space where you can nurture and express your creativity?

Come to The Creativity Lab!

Wednesday - Friday in Cobo Hall's Michigan Room

The U.S. Social Forum Creativity Lab is an open space dedicated to elevating our collective creative practice and understanding of cultural transformation. It’s a studio, a laboratory, an opportunity for creative convergence that offers space to experiment, share practices, and open up to new ways of engaging creativity and culture in activist work. The Creativity Lab is open for individuals and small groups to come and engage in art making, music, dance, writing, building creative and cultural strategy or whatever your creative mind can imagine. Bring your own materials or see whats waiting for you.

Drop in to engage in a variety of artistic and cultural practices, create art based on your own experiences at the USSF, or gather with other artists and organizers to exchange skills and share ideas. It’s a space to do strategic thinking and visioning across disciplines, or develop new partnerships and collaborations across sectors. A space to explore, express, and exchange creative tools, approaches, models and visions!

Everything that happens in the Creativity Lab will be art-based, engaging alternative ways of knowing, embodying connection and dialogue, and actively creating the world we want to live in. Come to increase your understanding of the importance of culture in progressive social change, or to celebrate the role of creativity in achieving personal, cultural and political transformation!

The Creativity Lab is co-sponsored by: Alternate ROOTS, Animating Democracy, Art2Action, the Arts & Democracy Project, the Leftist Lounge/Culture Clash, MAG-Net, and the Movement Strategy Center/Art is Change.
